Questions from parents
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost anything to join?
No. The cadet program is offered at no cost to youth and their families.
Do cadets need to buy a uniform?
No. Cadets are issued their uniform at no cost.
Does joining cadets mean joining the military?
No. Cadets are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and there is no obligation to join the military.
Who runs the program?
The cadet program is a partnership between the Department of National Defence and the Air Cadet League of Canada. Training is delivered by the Commanding Officer and squadron staff, made up of Canadian Armed Forces officers and civilian instructors. The Squadron Sponsoring Committee is a separate group of civilian volunteers. It does not train or supervise cadets; it funds and supports the squadron locally, from facilities and equipment to transportation and awards.
When does the squadron meet?
Training night is every Tuesday, 1820–2110 hours (6:20–9:10 pm), at the Brigadier General Walter A. Bean Armoury, 350 East Avenue, Kitchener.
